Accident during inspection - will insurance cover it?

Hi everyone,

I could really use some advice. I bought a 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio from hcm brokerage, but unfortunately I got into an accident during the inspection period and the car ended up being totaled. Thankfully, I had temporary insurance on it at the time. I'm wondering if that temporary insurance will cover me in this situation. Should I contact HCM Brokerage first or go straight to the insurance company?

Any guidance would be really appreciated!

The comprehensive insurance policy they offer provides solid coverage throughout the inspection period, so you should be protected as long as you weren't under the influence of alcohol or any substances at the time. If you need help, don't hesitate to reach out to their customer service team and explain your situation. They might ask you to fill out a form and answer some questions to evaluate your case. No need to panic — their insurance coverage has you well taken care of during this process.

Sorry for the long response. Hope this answered some of your questions.

Just to clarify, I was completely sober and not under any influence. Also, the accident wasn't my fault. I have the police reports and passed all the necessary tests. Still, I'm feeling a bit anxious since this is my first purchase through them.

Don't worry too much. You'll get the amount covered by the insurance, and HCM Brokerage will keep the payment you already made. This way everyone ends up satisfied — except the insurance company, of course. Just make sure to contact them as soon as possible and avoid any delays.

FerrariFan is right — you will get your money back. However, any delay might come from the insurance company's investigation, which typically takes about a month. Having a police report can help speed things up. It might also be wise to consult a lawyer, as legal representation often makes the process faster. You'd be surprised how much smoother things can go with a lawyer on your side.

I really appreciate your help! I contacted HCM Brokerage, explained everything in detail, filed a report, and submitted the police report. They told me I should be receiving the funds soon. I also gave them power of attorney to deal with the insurance company on my behalf, so everything is in order. It seems like a straightforward process. I'm eager to buy from them again once I get the funds back from insurance. Hopefully it won't take too long, haha. Thanks again everyone!

I can't recommend HCM Brokerage enough! We got our 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB from them, and everything went so smoothly — absolutely no issues at all!

Glad to hear things are working out! I had a similar situation with a different auction house years ago and it was a nightmare. HCM Brokerage seems to handle things properly. Their temporary insurance during the inspection period is a lifesaver. Definitely stick with them for your next purchase.

Just wanted to add that HCM Brokerage only accepts bank transfer, which is standard for repo auctions. But their customer service is responsive. Since you already gave them power of attorney, you should be fine. The 14-day refund policy (no questions asked) is another great safety net. Hope you get your funds quickly!

SpeedDemon, thanks for sharing your experience. It's reassuring to know that HCM Brokerage stands behind their insurance during the inspection period. I've been looking at a Maserati on their site and was nervous about what might happen if something went wrong during the test drive. Your story gives me confidence. Please update us when you get your refund!
